HERBAL TEA FOR SORE THROATS
When your throat is sore and scratchy, there’s nothing better than a comforting cup of warm herbal tea. And that herbal tea will help even more if it contains herbs which soothe inflamed tissues and relieve pain.
Herbs like liquorice, ginger, and chamomile are natural painkillers that also soothe inflammation and support your immune system in fighting off the microbes that cause sore throats in the first place.
We also like to look out for herbs that are high in mucilage – meaning they produce a slippery, gel-like substance that is excellent for soothing and protecting an irritated throat. Marshmallow root, slippery elm, and fenugreek are all examples that are traditionally used to ease a sore throat.
Eucalyptus Tea
Eucalyptus is another herb that is wonderful for a sore throat – or really any time you are feeling under the weather. A natural painkiller and anti-inflammatory, eucalyptus tea is a popular herbal remedy for coughs and colds.
This clearing herb is great for relieving the stuffy feeling that typically accompanies colds and sore throats. It contains eucalyptol, a compound that is also found in many over-the-counter cough medicines because of its ability to suppress coughs.
Soothing eucalyptus tea is also great for helping you find calm – especially when paired with other herbs such as chamomile and lemon balm. Together, these gentle herbs help you relax so that your body can rest and recover.
